The ”REAL LIFE” Podcast

A mortgage broker and a Realtor walk into a bar... well, not exactly.

Meet Tyler & Paul. They’re two Central Canadian entrepreneurs in their 30s(ish) who have some decent success building their own businesses from the ground up in the real estate industry.
In this show, instead of giving you the polished "hustle culture" highlight reel, they’re pulling back the curtain on the good, bad & ugly reality of being your own boss while trying to balance a wife, kids, their health and a hobby or two. There is a TON to get into.

While their roots are in real estate, their growing pains are universal. This show is for anyone trying to build a career while trying to manage everything else in their life.

They're not going to talk about the "six-figure secrets" (but you still may get one or two) instead this show is about the actual day-to-day life of the self-employed. There will be episodes covering things like:

  • Livin' on a Prayer: Life with a commission based income

  • Get Jacked Up: Why your mental and physical health is more important than you may think

  • Happy Spouse, Happy House: Making sure you get your priorities right when your business seems like the only thing that matters

  • Hitting Targets & Making Tee Times: Why "unplugging" for a round of golf isn't a luxury—it’s a necessity.

No Fluff. Just Real Life.

Whether you’re a real estate pro, a small business owner, or someone currently staring at a spreadsheet wondering if you’re doing it right: welcome to the club. Tune in for a casual, informative, but most importantly, REAL conversation.

You've worked hard, you've sacrificed and you've put in the time, but you're left wondering, when do you actually get to spend some of the money you've worked so hard to make?
Well, we're not sure if there is one true answer but this week we are sharing our perspectives on what worked (or didn't work) for us when it came time to enjoy the harvest of all our hard work.
We also dive into the topic of money management and how this crucial area of your life and business can help dictate how much you have to spend...maybe we should bring on Paul's team of financial advisors and get them to give us the goods on a future episode? ?

We tried to come up with a less abrasive title but sometimes it just is what it is. Throughout our lives we're going to have to work with people who we just don't get along with. Maybe its a personality conflict, maybe they don't value the same things you do or maybe, they're just a jerk. Maybe it's not even them, it could be you!
Today the guys discuss past instances when they've worked with people they didn't get along with and how they handled it.
Check it out, don't forget to LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT on the show! Share it with your friends and family as well! We love feedback so don't be shy about reaching out!

We've all had that long day where nothing seemed to go right, every call was stressful and when you get home you just unload everything out on your partner or your buddies. On this episode the guys discuss what that does and how it affects things at home and in your friend circles. They also give you their takes on other ways to manage it.

This week we dive into something our parents likely tried telling us when we were younger, but we probably chose to ignore. Now that we're older, we can admit they were right. Who we spend time with is important and it has a major impact on who we are as people on a daily basis. This week we chat about our current friend circles, how we meet new people and we also think back to our older friend groups and reflect on what things were like when we hung around with different people.

This week the guys recorded a late night pod and the result was some deep thoughts. Starting out they discuss the struggle of wanting to put the fun before the business and how easy it can be to do that when you don't have a "boss" forcing you to work. From there the chat transitions to finding your purpose with your work and how all of this seems to always comeback to a central theme...our families. Listen in for a good, honest, raw chat.

We're no hippies but we believe that having a positive outlook on things can really make a difference when trying to run a business. In fact, we'd argue that it would be difficult to do it at all if you weren't!
This week Paul challenges Tyler about hiring help to save him time and the guys get into about knowing your "why" and how to tell when you should consider hiring your help.
It's an episode where the the conversation took on a life of its own and created our best episode yet! For real, this wasn't even the topic they planned to talk about.

After a long day the idea of hanging out with friends can either sound exciting or exhausting. When you do make it out to your friends BBQ sometimes all you want to do is forget about work and hang out, but when you're "the guy" it can be tough. Your friends all want to ask how the business is going, how the market is performing or some sort of advice for their benefit and before you know it, you feel like you've clocked back in. If you don't entertain the conversation, you may be leaving business on the table!
But, this is part of owning your own company! So, how can you toe the line and enjoy your time with friends while also not having to work at the party and potentially leave business on the table?
Tune in and find out how we do it!

When you're running your own business, it can be very easy to put yourself on the back burner and let your own physical health go to the way-side. Today the guys discuss why they feel keeping your own physical health as a top priority is important to the success of your business, and how they incorporate it into their day-to-day even with a busy schedule, kids and spouse.
They also chat about their diets, what they eat (and don't eat), things they do to keep food fresh and how you can get your family involved to make a healthy dinner time count towards your health and your family time.
Listen in, you may learn something!

Anyone who makes a living selling anything will know that a life with a commission income is a roller coaster! There are major ups and there can be major downs. Today we're going to discuss how this unique way of earning an income can affect your business, your life and your family. It's also one of the most misunderstood parts of the real estate industry, so we're going to shed some light on that as well. How much money does a Realtor/Mortgage Broker make and is it actually as much as people think?

The title sounds more ominous than the episode really is, but it's not wrong. When we started our companies, we had a certain set of thoughts about how life would be, the pros and the cons. In our first episode we discuss how we got started and the actual realties of what life as a business owner is really like.
